Abstract
Zapin Pecah Dua Belas dance is an intangible cultural heritage of the Malay community that not only has aesthetic value, but is also rich in the content of Islamic character values. This research aims to explore the role of non-formal education through art studios in transforming Islamic values to the younger generation in Pekanbaru. The research approach used ethnocoreology approach with qualitative method. Data were obtained through participatory observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The results showed that the internalization of Islamic values in Zapin dance was carried out through three main stages: teaching the symbolic meaning of movements and lyrics, strengthening awareness through reflection, and preserving values through routine practice and digital media. This dance proved to be an effective medium in shaping the character of adolescents who are religious, responsible, and love local culture. This study recommends strengthening character education based on local cultural arts in contextual Islamic education strategies.
