PENINGKATAN PEMAHAMAN KONSEP MATEMATIKA MELALUI PENERAPAN PEMBELAJARAN BERBASIS BUDAYA MELAYU

This research was a quasi-experimental study, at MAS Yaspen Muslim of Pematang Tengah Village. The populations in this study were all students of class XI Mas Yaspen Muslim of Pematang Tengah Village. The purpose of this study was to describe an increase in the ability to understand the mathematical concepts of class X students of MAS Yaspen Muslim Pematang Tengah Village who were taught by applying culture-based learning. The types and sources of data used are quantitative data which was obtained from the measurement results in the form of test instrument of students’ concept understanding. The ability to understand the mathematical concepts intended in this study was measured based on four indicators, namely: (1) restating a concept, (2) giving examples and non-examples, (3) presenting concepts in a representative form, and (4) using, choosing and utilizing procedures. Data obtained from the results of the pretest and posttest that were analyzed to determine the increase in students' understanding of mathematical concepts. The magnitude of the increase in students' ability to understand concepts before and after learning was calculated by the normalized gain formula. Based on the results of the data analysis, the results of the study showed that the increase in the overall ability to understand the concept, amounting to 0.421 where the increase was in the medium category. Therefore, the result of the study implies that there was an increase in ability of students’ who are taught by applying culture-based learning.
Abstrak
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian quasi eksperimen, berlokasi di MAS Yaspen Muslim Desa Pematang Tengah. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI Mas Yaspen Muslim Desa Pematanag Tengah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan adanya peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematika siswa kelas X MAS Yaspen Desa Pematang yang diajar dengan menerapkan pembelajaran berbasis budaya. Jenis dan sumber data yang digunakan adalah data kuantitatif yang diperoleh dari hasil pengukuran berupa instrumen tes pemahaman konsep siswa. Kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematika yang dimaksudkan dalam penelitian ini diukur berdasarkan empat indikator, yaitu: (1) menyatakan ulang suatu konsep, (2) memberikan contoh dan non contoh, (3) menyajikan konsep dalam bentuk yang representatif, dan (4) menggunakan, memilih dan memanfaatkan prosedur. Data yang diperoleh dari hasil pretest dan postest dianalisis untuk mengetahui peningkatan skor kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematika siswa. Besarnya peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep siswa sebelum dan sesudah pembelajaran dihitung dengan rumus gain ternormalisasi (normalized gain). Berdasarkan hasil analisis data diperoleh hasil penelitian terjadi peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep secara keseluruhan yaitu sebesar 0.421 dimana peningkatan tersebut berada pada kategori sedang. Dari hasil tersebut maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman konsep siswa yang diajar dengan menerapkan pembelajaran berbasis budaya.
