Pembelajaran matematika yang bermakna sudah banyak dilakukan guru. Tetapi masih banyak siswa yang merasa sulit dan bosan belajar matematika. Untuk mempermudah atau menarik siswa agar mau belajar matematika, maka materi matematika yang diajarkan harus dekat dengan dunia siswa. Pembelajaran harus didesain dengan baik dari masalah-masalah yang dikenal/diketahui siswa. Pembelajaran matematika yang demikian dikenal dengan Pembelajaran Matematika Realistik (PMR). Pembelajaran dengan menggunakan pendekatan PMR diterapkan untuk meningkatkan minat, perhatian, dan hasil belajar siswa pada materi irisan dua himpunan di Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) Negeri 3 Ingin Jaya Kabupaten Aceh Besar.
